  • MUSIC COMPOSITION UPDATE: 159 new works for solo piano written and performed in the last 6 months for live stream concerts and recordings +

I've composed, arranged and performed a total of 159 new original compositions for solo piano during this last six-month period. Scroll down this blog entry to view the database of new pieces created for performance during 21 live stream concerts ("The Listening Experience"), listed by date, concert theme and composition title. Last week's detailed blog article AT THIS LINK tells the story of my 25 consecutive live stream concert events with in-depth information. These compositions are also listed on my Live Stream Page, featured in the song set list for each live stream concert in a gallery of text panels you can scroll through on the bottom of the live stream page. There is no way this level of creativity could have occured without the universal inspiration from George Russell (my composition mentor) and his enduring, prodigious Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization, for which I am eternally grateful. • Music Documentary Film Review: "Hearing Is Believing" - Rachel Flowers +

Although released as a full-length documentary film in 2017, I had not had the opportunity to see this movie until this week. Let me begin by saying that it is a very important film for everyone to enjoy and learn from, especially musicians. The focus is on Rachel Flowers. She is what a real musician looks like - in every way, shape and form. Her essence is one of purity. That's what this film means to me: music is purity. The purity of her soul made me cry tears of joy at the end of the film. She hears a sound in everything and in everyone. The title says it all. More than the familiar motto "seeing is believing," the truth is that "hearing is believing." This is in perfect alignment with my axiom that music is a gift given to all human beings to teach us to become better listeners. Read More

XODO Review 2020: One thing necessary for online music lesson interaction is a super-useful PDF music reader program with annotation tools

XODO is an online teaching tool I can not do without. It comes in handy every day while I teach real-time interactive, personalized private lessons via video chat with every student, whether children, teens or adults. It is a web-based PDF reader and annotation program for free that you open as a tab in your browser to view, store and mark up any music documents you use in a lesson. Here is the default home page to get started using it:

Xodo manange and open files web

With Xodo, you can edit, annotate, sign, and share PDFs on desktop, mobile, and web. Xodo makes working with PDFs quick and easy. With its screen-sharing, you can annotate, highlight and illustrate whatever you wish on the page. The "Bookshelf" is free and keeps all your files on the XODO cloud for future reference while maintaining all your mark-ups in memory. This is a screen shot of the Bookshelf page:

Here's some of the things it can do to help you annotate sheet music and student assignments:

The program tools enable you to annotate your documents, including adding sticky notes; highlighting, underlining, and striking out passages; inserting shapes; and drawing freehand. Once you’ve created your annotation, you can always go back to change its color, size, thickness, and opacity.

If you wish to keep track of all the work you've done with Xodo’s Annotations view-mode, you can quickly access a summary list of all the annotations in a document. Tapping on one brings you to the annotation itself, so you can see the context and go from there.

For PDF file management options, you can merge, insert, delete, reorder, and even rotate pages to manipulate your PDF to fit your needs.

It also has a chat feature if you wish to interact with your students and allow them to add their mark-ups. This feature lets you and your collaborators work together online in real time, eliminating back-and-forth emails or finding a time to meet. Collaborators can join from any device and enjoy the ability to view, highlight, annotate, and comment – everything you love about Xodo.

And if that was not enough it has Sync capabilities built in as well.

You can directly access PDF documents on your Dropbox and Google Drive from Xodo, and save them to automatically sync them back to the cloud. Work directly with PDF documents on your Dropbox and Google Drive with Xodo. Just save to sync your changes to the cloud. With Xodo, it’s easy to always have the latest version of your documents. All your comments, annotations, and edits are available when and where you need them.

I suggest you try this out by going to their website and learn more:
