Chordie App Review 2020: The single most effective software tool for one-on-one, live, interactive private piano lessons online that I use everyday!
Of the many awesome software tools to help students connect musically with what I'm teaching during online piano lessons is the software program "Chordie App" by Makat Music.
The Chordie App is truly state-of-the-art online piano lessons software because it is developed by accomplished and experienced professional musician Charles Schiermeyer for his California-based company "Makat Music," and is available for both Mac OSX and Windows (version 7 through 10). It stands out as well-designed and useful in a real-time setting for private piano lessons. It is the brainchild of an accomplished musician who understands music theory and advanced harmonic analysis.
Charles brings a wealth of musical experience to this program from his impressive list of credentials that include his work as a teacher, composer and performer, having earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in Composition from Manhattan School of Music. He plays all saxophones, piano, flute, clarinet, guitar, and some trumpet. What he's best known for is his amazing talent at crafting amazingly inspired and complex horn and string arrangements. He's been nominated three times for his horn and string arrangements on three gospel albums: Amazing [Live] by Ricky Dillard, Vintage Worship by Anita Wilson, and Sunday Song by Anita Wilson.
With all this in-depth musical experience, it's no wonder why this program is so functional, especially for live, interactive, real-time, one-on-one, personalized online instruction.
You simply connect your MIDI keyboard (hopefully a nice sounding digital piano like I use) to your desktop computer MIDI/Audio interface. Any simple MIDI or USB interface between your digital piano and your device will do. Launch Chordie, and it shows you the notes you play on the Grand Staff along with keys on an 88 key on-screen piano keyboard. The program does a very effective job with harmonic analysis to display the name of the chord you're playing as well as some alternatives. Here's a screenshot that:
And an excellent quote from the ChordieApp homepage:
"Chordie App is designed for musicians, teachers, producers, or anyone who works in music. It’s designed to make the arduous task of learning or teaching chord names and how to read sheet music extremely easy. No longer will the secrets of extended harmony be relegated to the classroom in the college theory programs. Teach yourself!! Whatever you throw at Chordie App, it’ll tell you exactly what it is, and make it extremely easy to explain it to everyone else!"

There are quite a few musicians who use Chordie App in their YouTube video recorded instructional videos. These are two of the good ones:
