  • Want live streaming and video hosting, your way? Streamhoster is hands-down the best-of-breed livestream hosting service available in 2020! +

The live streaming service STREAMHOSTER was suggested to me by Webmaster Extraordinaire Patrick Doyle, The Nashville Webmaster as the best option for my new regular Sunday evening live stream events. After launching this new concert series from my website, I was blown away by the quality, professionalism, and technical support offered by this top-flight service. As you can see by the archived videos playlist on this website's LiveStream page the results have been spectacular. Michael Barsoumian, the President of Streamhoster, went above and beyond the call of duty in helping me with my unique configuration that required a hardware encoder and mobile hotspot to provide the broadcast. By tweaking the specs and testing them over and over, he found the balance between a reliable stream with my limited internet bandwidth and the best audio and video quality possible. I could not be happier with the live stream and extremely grateful Read More
  • My Personal (Poetic) Birthday Tribute to Music Master Paragon George Russell +

If George Russell were gracing us today here on Earth with his presence on June 23, 2020, we would be joining in celebration of his 97th birthday. In his honor, this blog post pays reverence to a true human being, a vertical man, an innovator, composer, band-leader, music educator and theoritician who devoted his life's work to sharing the deepest insights into what the music itself is telling us about its own self-organization and unity, entitled "George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization - the art and science of tonal gravity." First, a preface with two quotes: “Though his pieces were direct offshoots of his Lydian theories, there is nothing the slightest bit doctrinaire about them…It is a mystery why Russell’s work has not become a standard part of the jazz canon, or why his works have not been rediscovered by the Jazz repertory movement.” - written by National Jazz Museum Read More
  • You could be a big step closer to becoming a 2020 best-rated online music teacher by using this free, powerful, web-based rhythmic training program called "Groove Scribe” +

No matter which musical instrument you teach to your online music lesson students, most teachers giving online music lessons agree it can be a real challenge to find interesting and innovative ways to enhance your curriculum with the all-important subject of rhythmic training. Both you and your online music students will love meeting the challenge with the help of Groove Scribe! Rhythmic training has always been at the forefront of what I share with my music students because the synergy of listening and timing are at the core of musicality and music making. I played drums and orchestral percussion while growing up, from Elementary school, Middle School, High School and pre-Conservatory College. That intense level of rhythmic training gave me very deep insight into understanding and teaching rhythm to my students.   With my live, interactive, personalized one-on-one private music lessons that I provide around the world online using video Read More

The single most effective software tool for one-on-one, live, interactive private piano lessons online that I use everyday!

Of the many awesome software tools to help students connect musically with what I'm teaching during online piano lessons is the software program "Chordie App" by Makat Music.

The Chordie App is truly state-of-the-art online piano lessons software because it is developed by accomplished and experienced professional musician Charles Schiermeyer for his California-based company "Makat Music," and is available for both Mac OSX and Windows (version 7 through 10). It stands out as well-designed and useful in a real-time setting for private piano lessons. It is the brainchild of an accomplished musician who understands music theory and advanced harmonic analysis.

Charles brings a wealth of musical experience to this program from his impressive list of credentials that include his work as a teacher, composer and performer, having earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in Composition from Manhattan School of Music. He plays all saxophones, piano, flute, clarinet, guitar, and some trumpet. What he's best known for is his amazing talent at crafting amazingly inspired and complex horn and string arrangements. He's been nominated three times for his horn and string arrangements on three gospel albums: Amazing [Live] by Ricky Dillard, Vintage Worship by Anita Wilson, and Sunday Song by Anita Wilson.

With all this in-depth musical experience, it's no wonder why this program is so functional, especially for live, interactive, real-time, one-on-one, personalized online instruction.

You simply connect your MIDI keyboard (hopefully a nice sounding digital piano like I use) to your desktop computer MIDI/Audio interface. Any simple MIDI or USB interface between your digital piano and your device will do. Launch Chordie, and it shows you the notes you play on the Grand Staff along with keys on an 88 key on-screen piano keyboard. The program does a very effective job with harmonic analysis to display the name of the chord you're playing as well as some alternatives. Here's a screenshot that:

And an excellent quote from the ChordieApp homepage:

"Chordie App is designed for musicians, teachers, producers, or anyone who works in music. It’s designed to make the arduous task of learning or teaching chord names and how to read sheet music extremely easy. No longer will the secrets of extended harmony be relegated to the classroom in the college theory programs. Teach yourself!! Whatever you throw at Chordie App, it’ll tell you exactly what it is, and make it extremely easy to explain it to everyone else!"

Here's the official FaceBook Page with links to instructional videos by the software designer himself, Charles Schiermeyer:

There are quite a few musicians who use Chordie App in their YouTube video recorded instructional videos. These are two of the good ones:

I highly recommend you check this out and get yourself a copy. It's very affordable, works great as a very stable piece of software, and is intuitive as well as functional. Five star rating!!!!
